Bruce’s experience of
recruitment spans 30 years. A graduate with a triple-major BA in
Psychology, English and Law, (University of the Witwatersrand and
University of South Africa) he spent several years in Human resources
management positions, starting with the Protea Holdings Group where he
set up a small in-house agency to cater for group-wide needs.
Thereafter he worked in Murray and Roberts, a large construction
group, where he was primarily responsible for identifying and sourcing
talent from abroad to support the booming South African construction
environment of the early 1970’s.
This was followed by seven years in the computer industry in HR
Management for Burroughs Machines (subsequently Unisys) with major
emphasis on recruitment, and HR Development with Control Data
Corporation, an early founder of Computer-Based Education. He
moved into the recruitment industry in 1981 and set up recruitment
divisions in two successful consultancies before becoming a director
and major shareholder of a leading South African generalist HR
services company.
Long before South Africa’s change to democracy in 1994 he was
instrumental in setting up competency-based processes enabling
culture-fair, non-discriminatory recruitment practice.
In addition to the industries where he worked as an HR manager, the
South African marketplace and a research-based approach has enabled
him to gain experience across numerous industries including IT,
Banking and Finance, Pharmaceutical and Medical, Mining, most
disciplines of Engineering, Education, Manufacturing, Automotive,
NGO’s, parastatals and others.

Industry, one of the top business clubs utilized by South African and
European companies to do business in the African continent. |
